This country should be ashamed of the way it deals with families in need of help and support
How do we get the people who haven't experienced this treatment to
believe that it is going on? I am also guilty of thinking parents had to
have done something seriously wrong to have had their children taken
away until it happened to me. Yes, they tell lies, twist words, and
manipulate things to get their own way. They criminalise the parents and
use divide and rule to their own ends. The way to fix a 'problem'
family is through help and support with whatever is needed, not snatch
the child and run, leaving behind a wake of traumatised family members,
not to mention the damage done to the child. I know enough people who
have been through foster care to know that it often isn't the correct
solution to saving a child. The emotional harm caused by trying to break
the bond a child has with its parents is far greater than the apparent
harm they have suffered with their parents, which in most cases can be
supported and helped without breaking up the family.
